Hello 2012

Hello 2012
I am so excited for this season. Now that all of our new drip systems are installed I don't even worry if we run into a water shortage as it is starting out to be this year. Our systems are so efficient that I will always have enough water and even more to share with others that need extra.

We completed the hoop house frame at our holladay location that will help us get our tomatoes out earlier than in the past. The tomato starts will be planted straight into the ground with drip lines to water them and also using black plastic mulch to warm the soil even more. Then presto early tomatoes for all our customers.

The one problem about farming is that there are always opportunities to grow and improve. So
I went out and ordered another 2000 chester blackberry plant because the soil and conditions of our Willard field are perfect for them. We will start planting in March.

March 2nd 2010

It was great to meet so many new friends who signed up for our CSA at the open house tonight! It was great to meet all of you face to face! Had a great day in the orchard. I prepared the ground for the peas that I will plant on March 18th. I found two new varieties that work really well for our climate. I was able to find individuals and a pizza company that could use the wood that we have cut while pruning this year. This pizza company says that cherry, peach, and apricot wood that they are using from my orchard burns slow and adds unique savor to their pizza. I'm glad that someone can use this wood instead of just burning it all at the end of the season.

Victor also finished cutting out the old canes in the blackberry field today and finished trellising the new vines.

It sure is nice to be working outside again! I do hope that it doesn't warm up too quickly.

Wow!!! Just returned from the Tulare California World Agriculture show! First time I've ever been! Spent three days learning all I could about drip irrigation and organic farming. It is incredible. I was able to gain a lot of knowledge and meet a lot of individuals who can help me do a better job of sustaining the land and my orchard. Came home with six bags of handouts and literature that I will digest over the next months. I'm excited to implement incredible products and technology at my orchard.
